Swallow - Hirundo rustica

Photographed at my home.

Photographed by me and Callum.

  1. Hi Bob,
Superb set of images, you most certainly have opted for the best way to get them.
I tried last week to get these birds flying, I had about 150 images with nothing on, they change direction so quickly, did eventually manage two but not that good.
I'm going to look for landed birds in future.
    All the best, John

    1. It is really hard to get them in flight John, but, it is easy sitting on a wire.

  2. Yet another charmer. Many thanks.

  3. Yeah, it's easy when it lands, but you've made some great attitudes, Bob.
    Nice collection Bob.

  4. They are almost tame occasionally on our wetlands walk. Wonderful birds.

  5. A lovely series of shots …

    All the best Jan

  6. Lovely swallows. Used to sing a few songs about swallows when having my voice trained.

  7. ARTHUR: The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plumber may seek warmer climes in winter yet these are not strangers to our land.

GUARD #1: Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

ARTHUR: Not at all, they could be carried.

GUARD #1: What, a swallow carrying a coconut?

ARTHUR: It could grip it by the husk!

GUARD #1: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

ARTHUR: Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here.

GUARD #1: Listen, in order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings 43 times every second, right?

    ARTHUR: Please!

    GUARD #1: Am I right?

    ARTHUR: I'm not interested!

GUARD #2: It could be carried by an African swallow!

GUARD #1: Oh, yeah, an African swallow maybe, but not a European swallow, that's my point.

  8. Hello Bob,
These are beautiful pictures of the barn swallow.
    Everything perfectly photographed.
