Great Spotted Woodpecker

It was full of showers, every time I started to take a picture, down it came stopping any photographing. Still its bound to stop! Well, I couldn't take one, so, here is one from the archives.

Nuthatch (New Fancy)

This is one of my favourites, attacker of all that comes in his way, especially the Tits. But, it looks so furtive.

What about me, I'm a Common Toad?
It wasn't a nice day, cold and some rain. So, I meant to put these on the blog, but something stopped me. Don't ask me what, because I do not remember! Or they were a bit scrappy.

What's on at New Fancy?

Oh, the autumn leaves
they start dying
until they spring back into life

Blackbird (A day at The Marshes in Lydney)

It seems wrong that out of this bird,
Black, bold, a suggestion of dark
Places about it, there yet should come
Such rich music, as though the notes'
Ore were changed to a rare metal
At one touch of that bright bill.
You have heard it often, alone at your desk
In a green April, your mind drawn
Away from its work by sweet disturbance
Of the mild evening outside your room.
A slow singer, but loading each phrase
With history's overtones, love, joy
And grief learned by his dark tribe
In other orchards and passed on
Instinctively as they are now,
But fresh always with new tears.

A poem by Ronald Stuart Thomas
