It’s interesting to see the Nuthatch with a peanut. Right now I am reading a booked called “The Blue Tit” by Martyn Stenning (great book, highly recommend it) and it cautions in there against using peanuts in bird feeders. They are known to transmit harmful pathogens.
Hi David, and Bob. Sorry to but in on this one, but I believe that most peanuts in UK which are bought from reliable sources for bird-feeding purposes are aflatoxin-tested and, as such, should be harmless. There is a question, however, as to whether or not there is a choking danger with birds feeding peanuts to their young - I am cautious in this respect during the breeding season.
Hi Bob, Superb images of the Nuthatch, they are such a colourful and delightful little bird. Caught wonderfully in the first two images on the thief. All the best, John
I'm not surprised you managed to attract the Nuthatch with that splendid looking peanut, Bob. I could be tempted, myself, by such a tasty-looking morsel! My very best wishes - - - Richard
