This duck is known from Spain, North Africa, western and central Asia. Photographed at Slimbridge WWT, in middle summer and in eclipse plumage.

ReplyDeleteThank you Ana, I wish you a happy week too.

ReplyDeleteHola Bob,bellas y magnificas fotos de esta Malvasia,un pato muy escaso y dificil de observar por las pequeñas poblaciones que hay, aqui en España es mas facil al sur de la penisula.Un fuerte abrazo amigo.

ReplyDeleteCute pictures ... sweet duck.
Very special looking bird!
ReplyDeleteA bill rather like a Spoonbill, I think. I've never seen either in real life.... Great pictures, nice Bert Jansch cut.
ReplyDeleteHello, what a cute duck. The bill looks like our Ruddy Duck. Great photos. Enjoy your day and the week ahead!
ReplyDeleteAs you know we have the Ruddy Duck here, a species which caused a good deal of consternation when introduced into Europe, and if I am not mistakes was exterminated in Britain.
ReplyDeleteYes I know, but I did not know it comes from USA, thanks David.
DeleteWhat an incredible bill. Amazing colour.
ReplyDeleteIt has a strange bill I know EC.
DeleteHow amazing is that blue beak?? I had no idea there was such a creature in the world.
ReplyDeleteLove that blue bill
ReplyDeleteBob, very nice! Never seen one before! It looks kind of sad. I love it's blue bill!
ReplyDeleteHi Bob, I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for linking up this post. I love your cute White head duck. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI love your images of the white-headed duck. I wonder why they didn't call him blue-bill duck! What an amazing colour. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteHi Bob.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures.
Beautiful duck and he has a beautiful color beak.
Groettie from Patricia.
Beautiful duck! What a beautiful remarkable blue beak!
ReplyDeleteAnd brilliant pictures, of course!
Warm regards, Maria
Hi Bob. Great images, but David has touched on a subject that, I believe, is still of concern. Sadly the Ruddy Duck has interbred with the White-headed Duck and, as I understand it, there are few pure White-headed Ducks left in Spain (mainly in closely guarded colonies). If it ever was exterminated in Britain, it has come back, and is regularly sighted in The Midlands.
ReplyDeleteWith my best wishes - - - Richard
Hi Richard, yes, and I have second opinion, since it was mentioned by WWT it was a White-headed Duck. Thanks for that.
DeleteSorry, Bob, I think I may have not written my comment very clearly. I think your images ARE of White-headed Duck. It is the Ruddy Duck that is still being seen in UK and are a ruddy nuisance!
Deletehij hebt of teveel gedronken of een blauwtje gelopen.Bob.
ReplyDeleteCheers Bas, keep on commenting.
DeleteThat duck is so different and interesting with its blue beak and white head!
