The curlew is the largest European wading bird, instantly recognisable on winter estuaries or summer moors by its long, downcurved bill, brown upperparts, long legs and evocative call.
Wonderful crisp images, Bob! I'm hoping I might find a Curlew when I have a trip up onto the moors one day next week, but I think I'm probably too late. Fingers are crossed. My very best wishes - - - Richard
Hi Bob, And such a beautiful bird to see, waiting patiently for my first this year, we usually see them near to Wet Meadow at Rutland. Super images, well done. All the best, John
Maybe it's the long beak but they always look happy to me. Ours look to have longer legs but that could be because yours is standing in long grass. Love their call.
Always a great bird to see, especially in its moorland breeding habitat.
ReplyDeleteOnly the cliche` will suit: a very strange bird!
