Curlew - Numenius arquata

Lovely species.

The curlew is the largest European wading bird, instantly recognisable on winter estuaries or summer moors by its long, downcurved bill, brown upperparts, long legs and evocative call.

  1. Always a great bird to see, especially in its moorland breeding habitat.

  3. Wonderful crisp images, Bob! I'm hoping I might find a Curlew when I have a trip up onto the moors one day next week, but I think I'm probably too late. Fingers are crossed. My very best wishes - - - Richard

  11. Maybe it's the long beak but they always look happy to me. Ours look to have longer legs but that could be because yours is standing in long grass. Love their call.
