Canada Goose - Branta canadensis

Photographed at Lydney Boating Pond, Lydney, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, UK.

Writing in the Daily Mail back in 2008, columnist Robert Hardman wrote; "Should there ever be a prize for Britain's most hated bird, then, surely, it would go to the Canada goose. If Canada geese were human, they would be lounging around all day doing nothing, claiming every welfare benefit in the book, driving their neighbours out of town and notching up ASBOs around the clock."

What a load of crap, they are beautiful, but, see whose it writing, the Daily Mail!!!!!

Please look at my website bobswildlife.co.ukThere is a photo of a Eastern Spot-billed Duck. And a  Highland Cow by Callum in  the 'Guest photographer.

  2. My national pride is deeply affronted. I don’t know how I will make it through the day. I am unfamiliar with newspapers in the UK but I gather from your derisive comment that the Daily Mail is a bit of a rag.

  3. Formation after formation, V after V with loudly honking geese buzz our house every day. I love 'em. Sometimes I'll drive by a field and see hundreds feeding on the goodies or simply plopped down and resting. These are wonderful pictures, Bob-- and thanks for your nice words about my duck today.

  4. That newspaper columnist is mean!!! They are handsome birds -- and Also they mate for life and it's beautiful when the couple raises their goslings together! When we lived on the Lake in Oregon we frequently saw family groups swim past our window .. a lovely sight!! (But I have to add that they are messy on land -- we could never wear our shoes indoors during the Fall).

  6. Columnist probably does not like these birds, because he has a bad opinion about them. They are beautiful and I think that they are clever. Pictures are pretty. :)

  7. Hi Bob,
I totally agree with David and yourself, that man is a total idiot. I was watching some at Eyebrook on Thursday and they are such a beautiful goose.
Super images of a delightful goose.
    All the best, John

  17. I'm not surprised to hear of more absolute rubbish from the Daily Mail, Bob! Whilst I wouldn't claim that Canadas are my favourite goose, they're certainly a handsome bird, as your delightful images show. If I was asked to nominate what my least favourite goose was, it would be Egyptian Goose - Daily Mail would probably say that this comment was racist!

    Best wishes - - - Richard
