Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus)

Standing on ice.
Photographed at the Stone Works, Cannon Ponds, Forest Of  Dean.

Please look at my website bobswildlife.co.uk. There is a photo of a Japanese Sika Deer, and the first of the Waxwing by John Truman and by Richard Pegler. And a photo of  the Fallow Deer in the 'Guest Photos '.

  1. the red and yellow among the otherwise common-looking plumage is such a contradiction. I love to listen to them. They're hilarious.

  2. Fine, sensitive portraiture as usual. Reggae!? Yah Mon!

  3. They are very under-rated little birds, shown beautifully here

  26. Hello Bob!:) I hope you enjoyed your Christmas, and had a very Happy New Year. All my best wishes for a fabulous 2017. I'm not blogging in full swing as yet, but visiting everyone who took the time to leave their good wishes on my blog before Christmas. Great captures of the Moorhen Bob,...a striking water bird, with a colourful bill, which really stands out against it's dark plumage. Their sturdy legs and feet must be well equipt to deal with icy conditions,... but rather them than I!:)

  29. Hi Bob. Your Moorhen images are delightful. I can't help it but I find myself laughing inside whenever I see a Moorhen's feet - they are so comical. I hope this doesn't make me a bad person!

    Best wishes - - Richard
