The skylark is a small brown bird, somewhat larger than a sparrow but smaller than a starling. It is streaky brown with a small crest, which can be raised when the bird is excited or alarmed, and a white-sided tail. The wings also have a white rear edge, visible in flight. It is renowned for its display flight, vertically up in the air. Its recent and dramatic population declines make it a Red List species. [RSPB]
The Skylark was a long way from me, ie: it was cropped.
Perfect once again.
ReplyDeleteI have little excuse for not getting a picture as there are hundreds about. I get them muddled up with Meadow Pipits.
That one is a female, it's hard to tell them apart, but their call is what I can tell.

Es un ave difícil de fotografiar, en tierra se camufla perfectamente con el terreno y en vuelo sube verticalmente hasta gran altura. Tiene un canto bonito y característico. Un abrazo,

DeleteI'm always happy to see Skylarks, Bob. They, more than any other bird, tell me that it's an English summer day. Nicely captured in your lens.
ReplyDeleteThey're not always the easiest to photograph, so good to see. We have a population (introduced in the early days of settlement) to the west of Melbourne, and I enjoy their singing when I go there.
