This is a small, mainly brown bird, with a shiny black cap, dark 'bib' and pale belly. In the UK its identification is made tricky by the very similar appearance of our race of willow tit. They're so hard to identify that ornithologists didn't realise there were two species until 1897!
Bob ... your photos are always such a treat!! You and your camera are a great team; what a buzz you offer your blog followers every post you create. I just LOVE the sharpness, geez I'd love to have a few hours play with one of those. The Marsh Tit is incredible; not only a handsome bird but as if it is sitting there in my monitor. Well it is, but every feather detail is so precise, incredible.
Really nice captures of this bird. We have several that are difficult to ID as well. Habitat and song are about the only two ways we can ID the birds. Great info.
Bob great images, I always struggle with this both keeping this species in the frame but also splitting it from the Willow Tit, but now I see that "white" spot at the base of the bill which has helped me massively in the last day or two, just got to keep it the frame, thanks RB
