Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes)

The wren is a tiny brown bird, although it is heavier, less slim, than the even smaller goldcrest. It is dumpy, almost rounded, with a fine bill, quite long legs and toes, very short round wings and a short, narrow tail which is sometimes cocked up vertically. For such a small bird it has a remarkably loud voice. It is the commonest UK breeding bird, although it suffers declines during prolonged, severely cold winters. [RSPB]

  3. These are wonderful shots of this little bird. it's song is 4 seconds long which does not sound long but is the longest of all the UK birds. 'Good things come in small packages'

I love the photos with the barbed wire, the contrast makes the bird look even more fragile!

  12. Reminds me of a poem I once wrote:
    "Pretty bird, perky bird,
    Happy, chatty wren,
    Flits into my empty heart
    And flutters out again."

  13. Aw, don't let the lady wren hear you call her "dumpy." She'll come sing under your window and make you regret it!
    ;)
All kidding aside, wrens are beautiful birds. Lovely shots!
