Mallard Duck, female, with a hook in her beak. (Lydney Boating Lake).

It is unearthly terrible to see such a thing. A female Mallard Duck hooked by some fisherman's, it makes me mad. I have rung the RSPCA.

  2. Oh Bob! I dread coming across a bird in such circumstances, it is sickening to see the result of such carelessness!

I am so glad you rung the RSPCA, I do hope they respond. Please let us know if you find out what happens... I shall worry about it :(

On a happier note, the word verification is 'kishes' so I will send my 'kishes' to you :)

  4. It's really sad to see a hooked bird. We get them a lot around our fishing piers here in Florida. My husband always laughs because I say there should be no fishing on fishing piers.

  6. You are right Bob it's an absolute disgrace that this kind of thing is still happening. I saw a Black Headed Gull with a hook around its foot over the winter but we were unable to get close enough to help it. I've also seen an occasional Kittiwake from our local colony get tangled in discarded line. It is senseless and something that can so easily be avoided.

  11. Oh Bob, how very unfortunate for this kind of thing to have happened. Yes, please do keep us in tune with what happens with this lovely bird. I feel so badly for her and she must not be able to eat properly with that thing as well as she could get hooked up on something even worse...my heart aches~

  13. Oh the poor sweetie. It makes me so angry to find discarded line left by irresponsible anglers. They give true sportsmen, who respect nature and the environment a bad name. I suppose sometimes it can't be avoided.. a broken/lost line and unlucky duck. Most times it's just a matter of being careful not to cast out near fowl. I hope your call will result in help for this beauty.

  17. Well spotted Bob. They will catch it. Petty they can't catch the moron who scatters hooks and line about.

  18. Ducks are my thing at the moment. And I just hate seeing this. You have to rescue yours from the fishermen, I have to keep mine safe from the hunters. ShySongbird's word verification was kishes, mine is clyserv and that sounds close enough to a swear word for me!

  20. Geez the poor thing !
I'll tell you I got a hook in my ears twice, both times it was my Dad's line.
It was painful and the second time it was removed at the hospital.
    All the best to you,
    Brad
